This 2-8-2 "Mikado" is on display at the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
[visit link] depot in Antonito. It was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Denver & Rio Grande as a Class 190 No. 1104. The locomotive was rebuilt by the Burnham Shops of Denver in 1928 to a K-37 and renumbered 495. The K-37 conversion took the standard gauge 2-8-0 (Class 190/C-41), converted it to 3-foot narrow gauge by placing the drivers inside the counterweights and rods, and added an extra trailing axle.
The Cumbres & Toltec acquired the engine in 1970 and it now resides at the Antonito terminus of the line. Behind the locomotive are freight cars representative of a 1920s freight train. They include a stock car, long refrigerator car, drop bottom gondola and a 25-ton boxcar.
