Wellington was a stop on the Great Northern track from Wenatchee to Everett. It is at the west portal of the original Cascade Tunnel. On March 1, 1910, two trains that were delayed at Wellington were swept off the track into Tye Creek in an avalanche that resulted in the death of 96 passengers and crew. The name of the stop was changed to Tye after the avalanche so passengers wouldn't be reminded of the disaster. A new tunnel was built and the tracks and snowsheds thru Wellington were abandoned. The last building standing was the Tye Depot, but it burned in 1930.
Reason for Abandonment: Natural Disaster
 Date Abandoned: 03/01/1929
