Originally installed at Victory Junction KS in 1921, this statue was moved to the front of the Leavenworth Co. KS courthouse in downtown Leavenworth KS in 1941. The statue was renovated in 2001.
UPDATE: A Waymarker has indicated to us that this statue IS NOT a Viquesney "Spirit of the American Doughboy," but is instead a John Paulding work called "Over The Top to Victory."
At this time we are electing to keep the waymark as is, with the note above about the mis-identification. The plaque on the Leavenworth County Courthouse states that this statue is by Viquesney, so until the plaque is changed, we will retain this waymark as a placeholder.
Perhaps a future visitor to this waymark can examine the base of the statue for a sculptor's signature and provide a photo.
Thank you to monitorlizard for pointing this out to us. Blasterz only want to create quality waymarks and give credit for works of art to their true creators. After looking at our photo of the monument and both Viquesney's work and Paulding's work on the internet, we are sure this is a Paulding sculpture.
