Oregon State Hospital Building #36, better known as "The Dome Building," was built in 1912 as the "Receiving Ward." It was designed by prominent Portland architect Edgar M. Lazarus, whose other works include
Apperson Hall at Oregon State University, the
Morrow County Courthouse and
Vista House at Crown Point. Ultimately the building housed administrative offices. It is connected to the Kirkbride Building and to other buildings on the north campus by way of an underground tunnel system, which facilitated movement of inmates/patients.
In recent years, the Dome Building has housed the Oregon State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision. It is one of the few buildings now utilized on the north campus of the Oregon State Hospital - most other buildings on the north campus are currently vacant while the state determines what to do with the north campus in light of the completion of the new Oregon State Hospital.
