This border monument is west of the Grand Forks - Danville border crossing by about 100 metres.

It's also uphill by about 100 metres. The way to get to it is not from the border crossing, but via Hillview Rd., off Highway 41, just south of Highway 3. Follow your GPS, and you'll be able to drive essentially to the border, then walk right to the monument. I've not approached it from the US side, but that is possible, as well.

Over the years it has been broken and repaired, then re-repaired, so it is not in great shape any more. Recovery reports are at the bottom.

DESCRIBED BY INTERNATIONAL BOUNDARY COMMISSION 1905 (JJM)
THE MONUMENT IS AN ALUMINUM - BRONZE SHAFT SET IN A 3 FOOT SQUARE
CONCRETE BASE AND PROJECTS 4-1/2 FEET ABOVE THE BASE. ---CANADA---
IS CAST ON THE NORTH FACE OF THE SHAFT,---UNITED STATES---ON THE
SOUTH FACE, AND---TREATY OF 1846, LINE ESTABLISHED 1857-1907---ON THE
EAST FACE. ON THE WEST FACE IS A PLATE BEARING THE NUMBER OF THE
MONUMENT.

MONUMENT 154--FOUND BROKEN OFF AND 2 SECTIONS OF THE SHAFT LYING
BESIDE THE BASE. THE SHAFT WAS FILLED WITH CONCRETE, REINFORCED WITH
STEEL RODS AND RESET ON THE BASE.

RECOVERY NOTE BY INTERNATIONAL BOUNDARY COMMISSION 1952
MONUMENT 154--NEAR CARSON, BRITISH COLUMBIA AND DANVILLE, WASHINGTON.
THIS MONUMENT HAD BEEN REPAIRED IN 1946, BUT IN 1952 THE TWO UPPER
SECTIONS OF THE ALUMINUM POST WERE VERY LOOSE. AFTER THE CONCRETE
FILLING HAD BEEN CHIPPED AWAY TO CLEAR THE JOINTS AND THE POST HAD
BEEN BRACED IN A PLUMB POSITION, THE OVERLAPPING JOINTS WERE WELDED.
A CURRENT OF 170 AMPS AT 60 VOLTS AND A NO 61 BRONZE ROD WERE USED
IN THE WELDING.
