On the grounds of the Person County Courthouse in Roxboro, North Carolina, the United Daughters of the Confederacy erected a monument to commemorate the Confederate captains from the county who were killed during the Civil War. The rectangular granite marker with roughcut edges was dedicated in May 1931. It was placed next to the Confederate Soldiers Monument. Inscribed are the names of the NC officers.

NC historian Mike Hardy claims that the statue on the nearby Confederate Soldiers Monument is of Edward Fletcher Satterfield, whose name is listed first on the Captains Monument. He died at Gettysburg while bearing the flag of his regiment, the 55th.¹ 41 men of the 55th died at Gettysburg.
