This marker is attached to the east side of the historic wall and is situated at the north end. The bronze marker reads as follows:

THIS BEAUTIFUL WALL WAS
CONSTRUCTED IN THE 1860'S BY FORT
DOUGLAS. IT WAS ORIGINALLY PART
OF THE OLD RIFLE RANGE. THE WALL
WAS ULTIMATELY BURIED AND HAD
NOT BEEN SEEN FOR DECADES.
AT THE TIME OF BUILDING THE
NEUROPHYSCHIATRIC INSTITUTE TO
THE SOUTH IT WAS UNCOVERED
AND SCHEDULED FOR DEMOLITION.
LORNA STOPPED THE DEMOLITION
AND GOT THE APPROVAL OF THE
RESEARCH PARK ADMINISTRATION
TO SAVE IT FOR ALL TO ENJOY.
"Lorna Higgs Matheson, 73, served on the Salt Lake City Board of Education for 12 years and also held positions on the University of Utah National Advisory Council and Board of Trustees and was president of the University of Utah Alumni Association.
She also organized reunions for East High School graduates for 55 years, according to her family." (
