A large sundial with a colourful mosaic tile base that is found on the top of the lower summit of Flagstaff Hill. Beautiful views from the top.
There is also an interesting plaque on the sundial that recognizes the centennial of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors. Further, it explains how to convert sundial time to NZ Standard and NZ Daylight Saving time.
The site affords beautiful, almost 360 degree views, of the Bay of Islands and Pacific Ocean.
Flagstaff Hill has a lot of significance in New Zealand's history. See the nearby NZ Designated Historic Places waymark for more details.
