The final resting place of Joseph C. Greene is at the far east side of Fairlawn Cemetery, just a few feet west of the border fence. His is a light grey horizontal marker with a leaf etched into each of the two top corners.

1868: Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia massacres at least 197 of his own people at Magdala. These are prisoners incarcerated, for the most part, for very trivial offenses, and are killed for requesting bread and water.

1888: In Washington, DC, the National Geographic Society is founded.
1898: Bombardment of San Juan, the first major battle of the Puerto Rico Campaign during the Spanish-American War.
1908: The Children's Encyclopedia begins publication in London
1918: Russia switches from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar; the date skips from February 1 to February 14.
1928: Aviator Amelia Earhart succeeds in her attempt to become the first woman to successfully cross the Atlantic Ocean.
1938: Heavyweight boxing champion Joe Louis knocks out Max Schmeling in the first round of their rematch at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
1948: The Hells Angels motorcycle gang is founded in California.
1958: The 30th Academy Awards ceremony takes place; The Bridge on the River Kwai wins seven awards, including Academy Award for Best Picture.
1968: U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson edges out antiwar candidate Eugene J. McCarthy in the New Hampshire Democratic primary, a vote which highlights the deep divisions in the country, and the party, over Vietnam.
