On the south side (Baker Street side) of the SunTrust Plaza building, there is an entrance into the SunTrust Plaza skyscraper. In the approach to the entrace there is an abstract sculpture of highly polished bronze that gives the impression of being a person reclining on their side. Closer examination of the base on which this figure is placed will reveil a small aluminum plaque on which is written:
"Olivier Strebelle
Sleeping Woman III 1974
Bronze"
This kind of bronze work is becoming a favorite of mine. I have encountered several variations of sculptures using this polished, smooth, bright bronze work. This is one of the larger sculptures I've encountered and the first styled this way by Olivier Strebelle.
Two other nearby abstract works by Olivier Strebelle are listed in the Smithsonian Institute Research Information System; but unfortunately, this one is not yet included in Strebelle's oeuvre. Hopefully, the SIRIS will notice this entry and include it as part of Strebelle's work.
The Sleeping Woman III is about 8x4x2 feet. The reclining figure rests upon a metal framed stand in the middle of the passageway around the SunTrust Plaza building and is centered in the walkway used to enter the building's south entrance. This sculpture is easily viewed from the nearby Baker Street that forms the southern border of the Plaza grounds.
