The Hubbard House was built in 1921 as a retirement home for Dr George W. Hubbard, the founder and head of Meharry Medical College for 44 years. Meharry Medical College is one of the nation's oldest and largest historically black medical colleges dedicated to educating physicians, dentists and other health care professionals. When the house was built the college campus was located in the area surrounding the house. The college had several buildings in the area at that time. In 1931 the college relocated to a location in north Nashville. The Hubbard house is the only remaining building associated with Meharry Medical College at the original campus location.
In 1970 the house was purchased by the Seay-Hubbard United Methodist Church and served as their parsonage. The house is now in poor condition however restoration efforts are underway.
