The Mishima gate is a traditional style torii gate which was built to commemmorate in 2001 the 10 year anniversary of the sister city relationship between New Plymouth and Mishima in Japan. It is located at the top of the Japanese Hillside, a walkway climbing the slope above the main lake, through beautiful azalea gardens. The ideal time to visit is around October when the bushes are in full bloom.
