This railway station Stetten was built in 1862 as a part of the Wiesentalbahn from Basel to Schopfheim and later Zell im Wiesental. From 1890 it also served the Gartenbahn from Lörrach to Weil am Rhein.
The town Stetten was incorporated into the city of Lörrach in 1908; as a consequence the station name changed to "Lörrach-Stetten". In 1913 the line was electrified, one of the first in Germany.
The station is property of DB (Deutsche Bahn), but the lines have been operated by SBB GmbH (German subsidiary of Swiss Federal Rail) since 2003. The lines are now a part of the Basel commuter train system under the names S5 and S6.
