Recreational Equipment Incorporated (REI) has a great climbing wall at their Pearl District location in Portland, Oregon.
The wall has a wide variety of grips and toe holds, and numerous routes to the top. On most Saturdays, a modest fee will provide you the opportunity for a climbing lesson on the wall, with the assistance of trained store personnel and using their climbing gear. Kids are welcome to climb, too, as long as the parent/guardian stays nearby (don't go off shopping in the store while junior is climbing the wall!). The member rate is $5 (consent form must be signed, too).
Regularly scheduled climbing classes are available.
