The
Adirondack Scenic Railroad is in two portions. This waymark covers the northern segment which runs from Lake Placid, NY to Saranac Lake, NY or
vice versa. Tickets may be purchased at either end.
The above link has complete information on schedule times and station locations. Please peruse the official Adirondack Scenic Railroad website for complete current information.
ASRR has special trains, such as the Santa Train, Adirondack Christmas Train, Polar Express and others. The complete schedule on their website indicates times when there are train robbery reenactments and such. When this author rode the train in Autumn, it was not a special event, but the ride was well worth it (and I've traveled many scenic railroads). The Autumn colors were the icing on the cake.
For kicks, I turned on my eTrex 20 at the beginning of the trip and let it make a track to the Saranac Lake depot. The coordinates of this waymark are the very first point of that track, which is where you board the train in Lake Placid. The depot is just a few yards away. The address of the Lake Placid depot is:
242 Station Street
Lake Placid, NY
Visit Instructions:Provide a picture of something with the train. Possible photos include the entertainment on board the train, the train itself at any location along the route, a picture of the scenery with part of the train in view, the kids borrowing the engineer’s hat. Show us you had a good time visiting the train. If the train isn't running when you visit get a photo of one of the many railway related items that can be found in locations like this.
