The county of Yorkshire has a tradition of local community brass bands and the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band is one of the most famous.

Rastrick is a nearby of about the same size of Brighouse and there has been a joint community brass bad in existence since 1881.
They have won the National Brass Band Championship Finals a few times but 1998 was probably their finest hour when they won the European Championships in 1998.
The mural consists of small tiles painted with a picture of the band playing their instruments in their distinctive uniform.
Their current uniforms in purple and gold were designed in 1952. They are in the style of military ‘mess jackets’, white shirt and bow tie with black trousers with purple seam stripes. They were first worn in a massed band concert in Huddersfield Town Hall.
To my untrained eye the instruments in the mural consist of trumpets, trombones and tubas.
The mural is near to the entrance of a small market next to the Calder and Hebble Navigation that passes through Brighouse.
