In Canton, not far from I-93 and Great Blue Hill, is the Dunkin' Brands Corporate Headquarters.
To get there, from I-93, take the exit for Route 138 North toward Milton/Boston. At the next traffic light, take a left onto Royall Street. The sign and building will be on the left, about a half mile down the road.
The building is a three story, modern office building. No stores are visible, but there is a Dunkin' Donuts at the intersection. There are signs for various products in the windows.
Dunkin' Brands, the company, was originally Allied Breweries of London, England, formed in 1961. Another company, J. Lyons, bought the Baskin Robbins brand in 1973. This company merged with Allied Breweries, forming Allied Lyons, in 1978. The company acquired Dunkin Donuts in 1990. After several reorganizations and name changes, the company becomes Dunkin' Brands in 2004. The corporate headquarters were then moved from Randolph to Milton, one town over, and one town over from Quincy, where the first Dunkin' Donuts establishment was started.
Baskin Robbins, the brand and ice cream parlor, was founded by Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins in 1946. This establishment is best known for its '31 Flavors' of ice cream offered every month (well, at least they used to).
Dunkin' Donuts, the brand and donut-coffee shop, was formed by Bill Rosenburg in 1950. Dunkin's was a well known store in New England for years before going national. One of the famous ad campaigns was about a character, Fred, the donut maker, who used to always say, "Time to Make the Donuts." Now the campaign is "America Runs on Dunkin'."
