Mellerup hørte indtil kommunesammenlægningen i 2007 under Nørhald Kommune. I dag hører Mellerup med ind under den nye Randers Kommune.

Previously Mellerup belonged under Nørhald Municipality. From 2007 the new Randers Municipality was formed in the municipal reform and Mellerup is now a part of that.
