The final resting place of Joseph Collier is at the far southeast corner of Rose Hill Burial Park, at the southeast side of section 2. His is an upright marker shared with his spouse.

1884: The eight-hour workday is first proclaimed by the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions in the United States. May 1, called May Day or Labour Day, is now a holiday recognized in almost every industrialized country.
1894: The Republic of Hawaii is proclaimed by Sanford B. Dole
1904: New Zealand dolphin Pelorus Jack is individually protected by Order in Council under the Sea Fisheries Act
1914: Charlie Chaplin makes his film début in the comedy short Making a Living.
1924: A radio time signal is broadcast for the first time from the Royal Greenwich Observatory.
1934: Rudyard Kipling and William Butler Yeats are awarded the Gothenburg Prize for Poetry.
1944: At Camp Hood, Texas, future baseball star and 1st Lt. Jackie Robinson is arrested and later court-martialed for refusing to move to the back of a segregated U.S. Army bus. He is eventually acquitted.
1954: The first mass vaccination of children against polio begins in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.
1964: The first Ford Mustang rolls off the assembly line at Ford Motor Company.
1974: An enormous outbreak of tornadoes strikes the central parts of the United States, killing around 319 people. Known as the "Super Outbreak", the event was the largest and deadliest outbreak of tornadoes for almost 40 years until an even larger outbreak surpassed it in 2011.
1984: Astronauts Bruce McCandless II and Robert L. Stewart make the first untethered space walk.
