A concentração e o saber de um broquista são também elementos fundamentais para deteção de defeitos e irregularidades dos traços, mantendo ao mesmo tempo a cadência necessária para produzir os muitos milhões de rolhas que os mercados consomem diariamente. Paralelamente a este processo automático, a brocagem manual requer do operador-broquista pensamento rápido, visão treinada e mão firme.

Graças a uma seleção criteriosa da matéria-prima, hoje podemos brocar uma grande parte das nossas rolhas em máquinas automáticas. Tal como em todo o processo de transformação da cortiça, aqui também a atenção humana é parâmetro para a garantia e consistência da qualidade. As placas de cortiça são posteriormente cortadas em tiras nas quais, por processos manuais e/ou automáticos, são brocadas as rolhas.

This monument honors the craftsmen, called 'Extractors', who take the bark from the cork tree and transform it into a useful material. While many think of cork used in wine bottles, it is also used for shuttlecocks, flooring, insulation, bulletin boards, etc. (visit link) for more information.
