This work depicts five seamen in various activities (apparently on a leaking ship)...one looks to the skies, one looks to the distance embracing another who seems to be wounded, a fourth sailor is descending a ladder and the fifth seems to be collecting a sail or tarp. The piece is set atop a stone plinth about 10 feet high.
The work was unveiled by King Olav V in 1980. The artist is Joseph Grimeland.
It is located at the FRAM...Norway's National Maritime Museum.
An accompanying plaque indicates that both the Royal Navy and the Mechant Navy are honored for their WWII service 1939-1945 and notes that the Merchant Navy lost half their ships.
