The historic Fishers Train Station is a working destination and departure point even after these many generations. The rails played a big role in the growth of all Midwest American towns, and the Fishers Train Station even provided a name for the community back in the 1800: “Fishers Switch,” later shortened to “Fishers.” The town of Fishers, Indiana is, in fact, considered an official “railroad community.”

With roots that deep, it is logical that the quickly growing Indianapolis suburb would want to make some reference to them in the big renovation of their train station, accomplished in 1996. Preserving the hard-won pioneer heritage comes natural to Midwesterners, especially those in Central Indiana.

Both the interior and exterior of the comparatively new facility harken back to train stations of simpler times. Inside there are city offices such as the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Fishers Chamber of Commerce. A decorative canopy graces the exterior by the train tracks.

The Fishers Train Station is one of the regular stops for the famous Indiana Transportation Museum out of nearby Noblesville, another Indy suburb. This Indianapolis museum maintains authentic period locomotives and offers fun, short excursions to other stations close at hand.

The Hamiltonian is the name given to the train excursion that takes people to dine around Hamilton County on Friday nights. Passengers get the ride of a lifetime from Noblesville to the Fishers Train Station and back. Hors d’oeuvres are included in the price of the ticket, and The Hamiltonian has a cash bar. Traditionally a night out just for the folks
