We've assigned the name "NGWENYA MINE" because we've been unable to ascertain the formal name of this beacon.

Please note that you will have to enter the Malolotja Nature Reserve and pay a nominal day visitor conservation fee.

The beacon is close to the "Lion Cavern" which is the oldest known mine in the world where hematite was mined by the San people about 41,000BC. Be sure to visit the Lion Cavern and the mine museum.

Follow the Ngwenya Mine signs past the glassworks, and once up on top, keep right and head to the lower parking. From there, it's a walk of a few hundred metres to the beacon and the Lion Cavern.

We don't recommend trying to get to the beacon itself because it's in a very dangerous location. Rather continue past below it on the path to the Lion Cavern, and you'll be able to see it from the viewpoint looking back.
Altitude (m): 1588

Beacon Type: Peak

Beacon Construction: Standard beacon

Visit Instructions:
We don't require you to provide any specific proof of your visit, but we do request that you upload photos if possible, the more the merrier.

Ideally, you should try to take photos at the actual beacon location, but if that isn't possible (private property, terrain, etc), then photos taken from a distance are also welcome, especially if the beacon is visible in the photo.
