The Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church was established in 1827 by some of the earliest settlers in the Cove. The congregation met in homes until the first building, a log cabin, was built in 1832. The log building was used until the present building replaced it in 1887. The interior of the church is covered with sawn lumber. The ceiling lumber was still green and sticky with sap when it was installed resulting in the handprints of the builders being visible to this day.
Behind the church is cemetery contining some 400 graves.
During the summer months a vounteer-led program on the history of the church is well worth the hour spent. We have attended it at least three times.
