Long Description:
The turnpike was improved in 1761 from Kirkby Stephen to Lancaster, passing through Burrow village. This led to development along the route. There is no sign of that now. This village was always in Lancashire, as the old county boundary is near Kirkby Lonsdale.
This style of milestone is seen elsewhere. e.g. A590.
