Christian Dietrich Grabbe (1801 - 1836) was a 19th century German playwright. A bronze plaque at the entrance informs that this is the house where he was born on December 11, 1801. Today the building is property of the Detmold city council. It houses a café and a studio stage of the Lippisches Landestheater (state theatre) and is home to the Grabbe-Gesellschaft, a literary society exploring and documenting the life and work of the playwright.
