Built by the Tennessee Valley Authority between 1939 and 1942, Watts Bar Dam provided much needed electricity to support the war effort including the ultra-secretive Oak Ridge site. Five turbines were ultimately installed to accompany a 360 by 60 foot lock for navigation.
Watts Bar Dam and the accompanying lake are maintained by the Army Corps of Engineer.
