King Chulalongkorn (1853-1910), also known as King Rama 5 (reigned: 1868-1910), was one of the great kings of Thailand, and fondly remembered by his people. He is known for resisting the nefarious imperial ambitions of both Britain and France, modernising his Kingdom, and reforming the governmental administration. Statues of him are to be seen throughout Thailand, and near invariably at the entrance to provincial administration buildings (Provincial Halls).

As is usual, there is a statue of King Chulalongkorn before the Provincial Hall of the small province of Maha Sarakham, however, this differs from the usual. This statue is maybe three times life-sized, rather than life-sized, which is the norm. The king is depicted standing, in military garb, with a small table upon which is his pith helmet. The statue rests upon a plinth, the back of which contains a biography of the King and the date of the dedication of the statue, 29th August 2544 Buddhist Era (2001 Common Era).

The Hall lies to the south of the provincial capital, in the provincial government precinct. Entry is unrestricted.
