Set in 1929 by U.S. Forest Service, marked SS 2, elev. 5025. This benchmark is located along Rd. 22 at milepoint 35.20, or 0.30 miles south of junction with Rd. 2316. The benchmark is cap cemented to a rock about 20 feet southeast of road. About 55 feet to northeast is a large blazed Ponderosa Pine reference tree. Blaze is largely overgrown but SBM and 028 are still clearly visible carved in blaze. Based on other blased reference trees found in region, it probably read USBM 5028 and was a temporary benchmark used in surveys to set SS 2.
