The Manhan was created by Nora Valdez and painted by community volunteers under the her direction. It is located along the rail trail where the trail crossed Union Street in downtown Easthampton. This approximately 100' long by 8' high mural was completed and installed in 2002 on the north wall of the Union Shopping Plaza. It can be best viewed from the trail trail.
The center of the mural depicts the diversity of the population of Easthampton. On either side are scenes from the town including Nashawannuck Pond, schools, factory building, the downtown entertainment scene, Memorial Town Hall, Congregational Church, Lower Mill Pond, and the town gazebo.
A plaque beneath the mural is inscribed:
