Also known as Igreja de São João Baptista, this church was built in the early 16th Century on a location where a previous church existed. It was built in "Manuelino" style, actually the best sample of this style in the region.

In 1708, for unknown reasons, the church partially collapsed. It was rebuilt and reopened on the 12th April 1710.

The last major maintenance took place about 50 years ago.
