Along the Norwood-Westwood municipal boundary and along Clapboardtree Street, is a monument marking the boundary.
The monument is located on the south side of Clapboardtree Street and is about 40 feet northwest of the west entrance road to Xavarian Brothers High School, and is across the street from the high school. It is located about 10 ft northwest of a telephone pole and less than a foot from a large stone wall.
This monument is not listed in either the MassHighway Town Corner Inventory nor the Mass Historical Atlas, which has a link from the Corner Inventory web site. Thus, I have to consider this a roadstone. However, it is located along the road, which the line runs along, and has the letters 'N' on the side facing the stone wall - for Norwood - and 'D' on the side facing the road. The 'D' stands for Dedham, which is consistent with the marker, NW-7, found along Nahatan Street to the west of this marker. The marker is a granite monument about 2 ft tall and about 8 inches square wide.
Norwood was founded from the town of Dedham in 1872. Westwood was founded from Dedham in 1897. Thus, the marker was probably placee some time between the two years - the earliest year was entered below.
Warning - The stone wall is covered with poison ivy, so be very careful what you put your hand against. Also, park your car at Xavarian Bros. HS rather than on the road - the road is narrow.
