A gigantic umbrella in the traffic island of Western Ave. and Lenora St. in downtown Seattle, Washington is perpetually caught in the wind. The umbrella which is turned inside-out was designed to reflect the stormy weather of the Northwest and rotates on its base when 'blown by the wind'.
The 20' Angie's Umbrella was created by Jim Pridgeon and Benson Shaw. Named for Pridgeon's mother, this kinetic sculpture has a steel shaft and perforated aluminum canopy which allows the wind to blow through and activate its movement. It was installed in 2003.
