The gravel trail leads down to a sandy/gravel area along the Shotover River called Morningstar Beach. The pleasant walk is about 15 minutes each way. Just beyond the beach the river constricts into a rapids. The beach is a good location to watch the tourist jetboats that operate on the river.
There is plenty of parking at the trailhead.
