The 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima was commemorated with a time capsule placed in the National Iwo Jima Memorial in New Britain, CT

The National Iwo Jima Memorial contains a sculpture of the iconic photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal of the four Marines and one Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mt. Suribachi on February 23, 1945. On the ground at the back of the sculpture there is a bronze plaque above a time capsule vault. The time capsule was placed in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima by the Iwo Jima Survivors Association of Connecticut.
The bronze plaque has a silhouette image Joe Rosenthal's photograph and the following inscription:

OF THE BATTLE FOR IWO JIMA.
IT INCLUDES THE OFFFICIAL CEMETERY FILE OF THE NAMES
