Nong Khai is a small province of the Kingdom of Thailand, which abuts Laos, which lies over the Mekong River, and hence, has a great deal of cross border travel, as goods and people wend their way back and forth, in the ceaseless journey of life.

The provincial museum is located in the city centre, near the River, and close to assorted other government buildings. The building is a former government building, designed in the usual rectangular style, with a series of rooms. The contents of the museum display the history and pre-history of the region. There are archaeological artefacts, historical and contemporary items, photographs, and a not-so-surprisingly thorough account of provincial governors.

Small in scope, not a huge range of artefacts, but, there is sufficient English signage and the museum does allow photography.
