The pictures were taken pretty much at the banks of the two rivers.

The headwaters of the Pend Oreille rise in northwest Montana but the Pend Oreille itself begins in Idaho and flows for 130 miles through Idaho, Washington and British Columbia before emptying into the Columbia just north of the border. It drains a total area of 66,800 square kilometres (25,792 sq mi), and (including the Clark Fork River, which feeds the Pend Oreille) supplies hydroelectric power from the Waneta and Seven Mile dams in BC, the Boundary, Box Canyon and Alberni Falls dams in Washington, the Cabinet Gorge dam in Idaho, the Noxon Rapids, Thompson Falls and Kerr dam in Montana. When it crosses the border into Canada it becomes the Pend d'Oreille.

If one turns 180 degrees from the view of the confluence, they will see the Waneta Dam (pictured).
