Hugh Glass was mauled here at the Forks of the Grand River and left for dead, he managed to survive and crawled his way to Ft. Kiowa, 190 miles away as the crow flies. He was later killed by Aricara Indians near the Mouth of the Big Horn on the ice of the Yellowstone River.
