Dr. John Pike, a naturalist, poet and romanticist, came to Portugal in the early 20th Century and built a lovely chalet in the city of Olhão. However, shortly after he moved in with his family, a tragic incident occurred: his old mother accidentally dropped his baby from a window of the first floor and John's little son died.

Shaken by the terrible loss, he decided to build another chalet, closer to the ocean, which still stands these days.

As to his first home in Portugal, since he left it behind, many people tried to live there, but the tales are coincident: a cry of a baby can be heard in the night as well as the dragging of objects around the house.
Public access?:
The chalet is not accessible but easily watchable from the street.
