The McCloud Historic District is associated with the large, productive, and influential McCloud River Railroad and Lumber Company which operated the town from 1896 until 1963. The district contains buildings associated with the administration of the McCloud River Lumber Company, a number of residential buildings, and three churches. There are seventeen buildings which are contributing structures, including the McCloud Hotel, the McCloud River Mercantile Company, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and the McCloud River Lumber Company Offices.
The District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 16, 1990.
