The clock tower and Town Hall are Grade II listed, built circa 1878-81, designed by James M Money in the Gothic style. (The c.1908 municipal buildings at rear are in a similar style and replace the old Mansion House).
The facade to the Market Place has a central, 2-storey range with three gabled bays, a three storey tower at the south end, and a tall, four stage clock-tower at the north-east corner above the main entrance. It is built of polychrome red and blue brick. The tower has string courses at floor, sill and impost levels, tall lancet windows, and traceried 1st floor windows and balcony over the entrance. The pyramidal roof has finials and gabled lucarnes, with machicolated eaves cornices.
The clock has four faces which are white and each have red brick circular surrounds. The hands, roman numerals and minute marks are black.
