Autaugaville is a small community located in Elmore County west of Prattville. This bell sits in the parking area of Autaugaville Baptist Church next to an information sign. The church is located on Alabama Highway 14 by the intersection with Autauga Street.
Attached to the sign next to the bell is a plaque with the following information:
"This church sign and bell are dedicated in memory of Autaugaville Mayor Curtis Jackson (Brig. Gen.) who maintained the sign and rang he bell every Sunday morning for 50 years."
Along the top of the bell in an inscription indicating the bell is from Meneely Foundry in West Troy, NY. I found the following information online:
"The Meneely Bell Foundry was a bell foundry established in 1826 in West Troy (now Watervliet), New York, by Andrew Meneely.[citation needed] Two of Andrew's sons continued to operate the foundry after his death, while a third son, Clinton H. Meneely, opened a second foundry across the river with George H. Kimberly in Troy, New York in 1870. Initially named the Meneely Bell Company of Troy, this second foundry was reorganized in 1880 as the Clinton H. Meneely Company, then again as the Meneely Bell Company. Together, the two foundries produced about 65,000 bells before they closed in 1952."
