This Museum is located in the tourist/history strip of central Georgetown. Inside its walls are displayed the history of Islam and Islamic people in Penang. The Museum also houses documents from the history of the island. All available for the small entry fee of 3 Ringgit (~$1).
Unfortunately, even though I visited during the posted opening hours, the Museum was closed. Perhaps as my visit coincided with the low season?
The building itself has a measure of history. It was constructed in 1860, in the "in mid-19th century Straits Eclectic style", as a mansion, for one of the islands more colourful characters. This was Syed Alatas, who was the leader of the Red Flag secret society. An entrepreneur/thief/wheeler dealer, of some description. The mansion became a museum in 1999.
