Portage Railroad inclined plane 6. This marker is located on the eastbound side of Old US 22. A second is on the westbound side. Rout 22 changes from a 2 lane road to a 4 lane and this point. Parking is available at the medium.

Portage Railroad


Here was No.6 of the ten inclined planes used to carry canal boats by rail, Hollidaysburg to Johnstown. This unique engineering feat was completed in 1834. The length of the road was 36 miles long.
