The azimuth disk part of the Peach triangulation station disk is located on County Road 76 next to a driveway. It stands out clearly as the concrete extends above ground, and it is next to a witness post.

In looking at benchmarks in the Clanton area, I read the description for the Peach triangulation station, then tried to follow the directions on a Google map. The 1971 description discusses turning on a dirt road to reach the azimuth on the way to the station. Fortunately, the roads are paved until the last one to reach the triangulation station, and the azimuth and the witness post were easy to spot. In this particular case I was able to guess it would likely be County Road 76 to reach the azimuth.

We were able to find the azimuth on a Saturday afternoon. The mark is next to a driveway, and a home owner came out to ask what I was doing just as I finished. I told him I checking the benchmark, he nodded and went back in the house. We continued on to look for the triangulation disk but that was located behind a locked fence.

The following are the parts of the 1971 datasheet description dealing with the azimuth:

TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE CLANTON POST OFFICE, GO WEST ON THE PAVED STREET FOR 0.05 MILE TO ITS JUNCTION WITH U.S. HIGHWAY 31. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON HIGHWAY 31 FOR 0.2 MILE TO ITS JUNCTION WITH STATE HIGHWAY 22. TURN LEFT AND GO WEST ON HIGHWAY 22 FOR 4.1 MILES TO ITS JUNCTION WITH COUNTY ROUTE 37. TURN LEFT AND GO SOUTH ON ROUTE 37 FOR 1.8 MILES TO A ROAD LEFT.

TURN LEFT AND GO EAST ON THE DIRT ROAD FOR 0.3 MILE TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT.

THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK STAMPED PEACH 1971, SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CYLINDRICAL CONCRETE MONUMENT WHICH PROJECTS 6 INCHES ABOVE GROUND. IT IS 66 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF A GREEN-SHINGLED HOUSE, 33 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER OF THE DIRT ROAD, 2.5 FEET WEST-SOUTHWEST OF A POWER POLE WITH TRANSFORMER, AND 1.6 FEET EAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST.
Azimuth Condition: Good

Your Directions:
Follow the description to reach County Route 37. Continue south for 1.8 miles until you reach the intersection with County Road 76. Turn left (east). Go for .3 miles to the azimuth on the left. There is a witness post, and the concrete is some inches above the ground. I parked on the side of the road by the mark and took my photos, so additional parking coordinates are not needed.
