This devilish location, Devils Homestead, treats visitors to this roadside look-out to spectacular views of a large expanse of natural lava beds for which these particular lave beds were given the name 'Devils Homestead'. A view on a topography map shows the expanse of lava beds in this area and there are information signs here that discuss the natural area in more detail.
The Lava Beds National Monument is a wonderful place to visit, not only for the lava beds and hundreds of caves that exist here (also the largest concentration lava tube caves in North America) but for its human history as well. This National Monument is also home to the battles of the Modoc Indian War that occurred from 1872-73, resulting in the
only U.S. General killed in an Indian War.
