Benkelman is the county seat of Dundy County, located in southwestern Nebraska near the Kansas and Colorado borders. The town is also located at the intersection of highways US-34 & NE-61 and the confluence of the north and south forks of the Republican River. Western film actor, Ward Bond (
"Wagon Train" & "It's a Wonderful Life") was born in Benkelman and a memorial park named after him is located near the south edge of town.
Recreational opportunities abound with hunting, fishing, golf and cultural arts nearby. Another attraction is the Dundy County Museum featuring 26 rooms of historical items including railroad memorabilia and a working soda fountain.
