The 20th U.S. Army Corps, also known as Hooker's Corp, was part of General Sherman's army starting at Atlanta and continuing to the end at Bentonville and then the Confederate surrender at Durham's Station, NC.
Their service with Sherman included the Battle of Averasboro.
The monument reads:
"Dedicated to the
Union Soldiers
of the
20th Corps
Who Fought and Died
During
the Battle of Averasboro
March 15-16, 1865"On the reverse are the unit serving under the 20th Corps.
