This old fire hose tower was built befor 1901.

The Freeport, Maine Fire Department has a website that lists the history of the fire department, and on a list of equipment that was in service in 1901, the first items listed are (with their value, at that time):

Hose House and Tower $465.00
Hose House Lot $125.00

Today, the hose tower has been renovated and houses the Freeport USA Vistors Center (a downtown association), and is currently being renovated to also perform double duty as a ticketing location and waiting area for the new Amtrak service that will be coming to Freeport in 2013.
