Long Description:

On the west side of MD 276 just south of the intersection of Main Street and Center Street in Port Deposit an historical marker has been erected that describes Snow's Battery. During the Civil War 32 men were lost. Five enlisted men were killed as a result of action and 27 enlisted men died of disease.

The marker is inscribed:

{Seal of the State of Maryland}

SNOW'S BATTERY
On August 30, 1861 Battery B of the
Union Army under the command of Capt.
Alonzo Snow was organized at Port
Deposit, composed mainly of men from
this town and vicinity. The Battery
rendered important service to the
Federal forces in the Civil War.
Notably artillery support in two
bloody battles of 1862, Malvern Hill
on the James River in Virginia and
Antietam near Sharpsburg in Maryland.
